Simple Preservative-Free Stock Recipe that saves SO much time

Because I’m a stress coach but also a mother, wife and family organiser, I’m all about reducing stress and a more peaceful life. This includes not only emotional health and mindset techniques, but holistic nutrition, growing food, Christian faith tips, budgeting, and managing a simple household to nurture both our bodies and minds and those of our children - I share blog posts of some of the recipes and simple household techniques I have created to do all these things, as well as my usual stress and emotions coaching content.

Why I use preservative-free

Preservative-free is something we are working on HARD in our household, and while we still have some packet-mixes and snacks, I’m working on being as simple & low stress as possible over here! Since my daughter (and now son) reacts to so many preservatives, I can’t use stock cubes or powder much, and you may know that there are gluten-sensitive people in my household too - more on how I have seen gluten affect behaviour coming soon!

But first…Sick of too many open recipe tabs?

Use these gorgeous printable recipe cards to not only remember the recipe, but stay organised as part of your meal planning routine!

Full disclosure: bacon does often have preservatives used when it is originally made, but apart from that it’s free from nasties!

A major reason this recipe is so fast is that you make it when you have just finished cooking bacon for something else. When my family have bacon and eggs sometimes on a Saturday morning, or if I make a quiche with bacon, this is a simple way to make the best of that gorgeous bacon-y flavour! (Try chicken instead, that’s a good one too!)

Before you start the recipe, spend 36 seconds looking at how I made it, here on Youtube!

Ingredients:

Bacon ‘fat’ in a pan, still warm in the pan.

1 onion, diced

2 sticks of celery, chopped

1 carrot, diced

1L of water

Method:

When you have had bacon and eggs or something similar, while you wait for the toast to cook, cut up an onion, 2 sticks of celery & a carrot (If you watch this on Youtube shorts, you can see that my celery is frozen from when I had a glut of celery in the garden. So much celery - so I froze some for exactly this moment! Another cost-effective, time-saving idea right there!

Need to get intentional with those dollars? Get my Simple Budget Planning calculator right here, add in your information, and suddenly the detailed budget is done in an hour rather than it taking a very long time every 6 months!

Throw it all in the pan with the yummy bacon fat and sweat it all for 5 mins with a pinch of salt if you need, and some pepper.

Then add 1-1.5L water (depending on how much you want) and stir, while you wash the dishes or something else you need to do in the kitchen.

Leave to simmer for 20 mins. Pop into a container or a ziplock bag (If you use a bag, let the stock cool for awhile first).

Freeze for quick moments in future cooking, preservative-free!!

This Preservative-Free Stock Recipe has saved me so much time!

It’s great for when I need to get a meal on the table fast, with flavour, for those who can’t eat preservatives in my household (including me!).

I love providing not only nutritious food, but tasty food the kids and my husband will eat - and anytime I can incorporate our own home-grown food, I will!

Enjoy the recipe, and don’t forget to check out what it looks like on Youtube and subscribe!
